Product Description

Strelitzia juncea is very striking and unusual plant.  It's flowers are almost identical to those of the more common Bird of Paradise (S. reginae) but it's leaves are tall and cylindrical, much like a water reed.

Once it is established, Juncea flowers prolifically and is extremely drought tolerant.  It will tolerant damper soil provided it has good drainage and plenty of sunshine.

You can grow Strelitzia juncea in part-sun, but full sun encourages the greatest number of flowers.   It grows 1.5 - 2 m high.

Young Strelitzia juncea plants look similar to Strelitzia reginae plants, but as they grow older the leaves become more paddle shaped, and by the time they are mature the leaves are narrow all the way up and are completely reed-like.

The plants on offer here are over a year old and are currently in 140mm pots.  They will be posted bare-rooted or can be picked up from the nursery in their pots.  We only have a few at the moment.

If you require full grown landscaping plants, we will have Strelitzia juncea in 250mm, 300mm and 400mm pots available for pick up / freight from the nursery.  Please contact us if you need prices.
