Product Description

The Red Tower Ginger is a superb example of a tall growing Costus.  It has large, showy red and yellow flowers and tall stems covered in lush tropical foliage.

Originally Costus were classified as part of the ginger (Zingiberaceae) family, although now they have been re-classified into their own family (Costaceae), hence the rather misleading name of Red Tower Ginger. Both families of plants are spectacular and look compatible planted together in tropical gardens.

The Red Tower Ginger grows to about 2 - 3m and prefers part shade.  It does look good in large pots, provided you can provide adequate water over Spring and Summer and keep it drier over Winter.

Unlike many of the plants that we grow in the Ginger, Heliconia and Costus families, this is one that will tolerate frost so can be grown further South than most of the others but it still performs best north of Sydney.

The plants we supply are bare-rooted rhizomes that should quickly grow to full size in their first full season after planting.

Important information about your order

We post to all states except WA, TAS & NT

All of our plants are posted bare-rooted, wrapped in slightly damp paper

We try not to trim back plants for postage unless we really have to - for example our Gingers and Heliconias are trimmed back to rhizomes as they post and plant better this way

We post on the Monday after payment has been received.  Payment needs to have been received by 8am Monday to be included in that day's mail

All items are sent with tracking and where an order totals over $100 it will require a signature on delivery

We inspect every plant before it leaves us to make sure we are sending you healthy, good-sized plants that will perform well in your climate

When you receive your plants

Please unpack the box as soon as possible

If you're not ready to plant, leave your plants in a cool, shady place either wrapped in damp paper or in a tub of water until you are ready

Look out for our discount cards - we often reward our customers with a discount voucher so we'll put one in your box whenever we have a promotion running
