Product Description

Our pink costus are sometimes sold by the names of Pink Indian Head, Pink Spiral Ginger, or Strawberry Spiral Ginger.

They are a fast growing tropical plant with lush pale to mid green foliage and unusual cone shaped pink flowers.  They are easy to grow and flower reliably.

They grow to about 1m high and are best in part shade, along side other shade lovers such as heliconias, gingers and Clivias.  They will tolerate full sun for part of the day, so long as they have protection from really harsh midday sun.  They can be grown in pots or direct in the garden.

They will benefit from compost, mulch and organic fertilisers or manure.

The plants we provide are supplied as a bare-rooted rhizome with at least one good growing point.  The rhizome you will receive will be wrapped in newspaper.  When it arrives you can plant it, water it and watch it grow into a mature over a couple of weeks.   Once established they are very hardy plants that will require very little care to look good all year.  If you don't have time to plant it straight away you can leave it in the shade either wrapped in slightly damp paper or in a tub of water and it will be fine for at least a few days.
